Casting Technology of Copper Sculpture

Sculpture is a form of expression of art. The history of sculpture in the Central Plains can be traced back to the Peiligang Culture more than 8000 years ago. For thousands of years, Central Plains sculpture has always been the leading and symbol of Chinese sculpture. The following section will introduce the process of casting copper sculpture.

The cast bronze sculpture is not a general and simple process, but a sculpture cast by professional molds and techniques. Here is a detailed look at the casting process of the cast bronze sculpture:

1. Deepening of design scheme and clay sculpture production: first, we should design drawings for the overall conception of the sculpture, and then cast the bronze sculpture according to the pattern. Then we should make a rough model of the designed pattern with clay drawings to facilitate our modeling. If there is anything bad, we can change the clay sculpture. Second, we should scale up the clay sculpture to make one-to-one clay sculpture.

2. Mold reproduction: After the clay sculpture is made, it is necessary to reproduce the mold. There are two types of molds: one is gypsum reproduction, the other is silica gel reproduction. We use gypsum reproduction when it is not too complicated, and vice versa.

3. Wax pouring: pour the melted paraffin into the prepared gypsum mold or silica gel mold, and the paraffin will become a wax after cooling.

4. Shell making: There are two kinds of shell making and mold reproduction: one is precision casting, the other is resin sand box making. In small or complex parts, we should choose precision casting, while sand box manufacturing is generally applicable to simple smooth surface without much technology.

6. Casting and polishing: pour copper water into the finished shell or sand box under high temperature, and then polish the riser.

7. Splicing: put together the polished bronze sculptures to form a complete whole. After this step, we can basically see the general shape of the cast bronze sculpture.

8. Clean the welded junction and paint the surface: treat the welded parts of our spliced copper carving to be exactly the same as our clay manuscript, and then paint the surface.

9. Oiling and sealing wax: After cleaning the welded junction and painting the surface, the next step is to oil and seal wax, which can keep the sculpture up to date for a long time.

10. Installation: After the above 9 steps are completed, only installation is left. During installation, professionals are generally required to guide the installation according to the on-site construction environment.
