Silica gel ring is a saturated non-polar rubber based on silicon obtained from quartz and formed by silicon atoms adhering to side chains such as methyl, vinyl, etc. Different side chains will lead to different characteristics of silicone rubber. Methyl vinyl silicone rubber (VMQ) is a kind of silicone rubber material which is widely used.

Silica gel ring has excellent heat resistance, low temperature elasticity and particularly excellent oxidation and ozone resistance, with high permeability and selectivity for gas permeability. Good electrical insulation performance (volume resistance greater than 10 Ω. cm, breakdown voltage above 30kv/mm), corona resistance and arc resistance. However, the addition of conductive carbon black, nickel powder, aluminum powder and silver powder can obtain proper conductivity (volume resistance can reach 5-0.02 ohm cm). The surface energy of silicone rubber ring is low, and it has hygroscopicity and can play an isolation role. Water resistance, but poor water vapor resistance. It is not recommended to use when the pressure exceeds 50psi. Compatible with most oils, chemicals and solvents. Generally, silicone rubber has good acid and alkali resistance, good polar solvent resistance, and is not resistant to alkane hydrogen and aromatic oil. It is not recommended to be used in most concentrated solvents, oils, concentrated acids and diluted caustic soda solutions. Special silicone rubber also has radiation resistance, flame resistance, oil resistance and other properties. It has low tensile strength and weak wear resistance, and is generally not used for dynamic seals.
